Custom Ribs

Home

In order not to have "Homer" bumps in the fabric for a cleaner, smoother look, I decided to make custom ribs for the Rudder, Ailerons, Flaps and Elevators.

As you can see by the pictures above, the factory recommended ribs are made from round tubing, but our ribs made of flat stock like Cessna, Piper and Boeing. This results in a smoother look as can be seen by the finished surfaces that the ribs are sitting on.

1. We drilled the proper size hole in a blank for the leading edge.
2. Then we measured the length from the leading edge tube hole to the trailing edge tube.
3. The hole for the trailing edge was them made with a unibit.
4. The bends for the rib were then laid out on the blank.
5. The rib blank was then sheered to size and cut to shape.
6. Slick then bent all the ribs on the brake
7. Slick again checking for quality control of the finished rib.
